General Notes
The purpose of this course is to provide students exhibiting disorders in one or more of the basic learning processes involved in understanding or in using spoken or written language with appropriate instruction in language skills necessary to achieve annual goals based on assessed needs and the student's individual educational plan (IEP).This course is designed for students with disabilities whose IEP indicates the need for language therapy, either as an exceptional student education program or related service. The outcomes that the student should achieve must be specific on an individual basis and relate to achievement of annual goals on the student's IEP.
Instructional activities should be age appropriate and include a variety of learning opportunities. Activities involving practical applications may occur in home, school, and community settings for the purpose of acquisition, practice, generalization, and maintenance of skills.
