  In this lesson students will learn about exploring educational technology, and develop soft skills such as teamwork, research, and presentation. This lesson will build industry content knowledge and prepare students for careers in education and technology development by understanding technology integration challenges and solutions.

• Learning Objectives

  
  

  Students will be able to:

  1. Research several technological options that can be used in the classroom.
  2. Present information about a technology tool and its impact on instructional practices.
  3. Research in group and present the solutions.

• Prior Knowledge

  
  
  1. It will be beneficial if students understand that different countries, especially least developed and developing countries, have very limited resources for both teachers and students.
  2. Having some knowledge of doing research and working in groups will be beneficial.
  3. Some understanding of Nepal and the situation of Nepali education especially situation of technology in classroom, will be helpful.

  1. What technology options are available to teachers?
  2. How can teachers effectively incorporate technology into their classrooms?

• Procedure

  
  

  1. Teacher will start class with a discussion question:

  • Is it beneficial to use technology in the classroom? How do you think it is different and challenging in developing countries?

  After few initial ideas, follow up with:

  • What options do you all think are applicable in your context and in developing countries?

  The discussion will be open to the whole class.
  
  2. After several ideas in the floor, give students the case study, “Edu-tech-ing Future,” (See CPALMS resource ID# 215511) to read individually. After finishing reading, ask the following questions:
  
  

  • Why do you think it is challenging to integrate technology in classrooms, especially in developing countries like Nepal?
  • What do you think is the core reason for teachers not using the video in their classroom?
  • How would you recommend KOK move forward with their initiative?

  3. Divide the class into groups of 4-5 students. Each group is assigned to research different technological options that can be utilized in education. Students should gather information from a several sources, including articles, videos, and technology in education sites. Students are encouraged to research the following:
  
  

  • What other technological options for teaching can be used in the classroom?
  • How can teachers be inspired and motivated to use these technologies?
  • What challenges do teachers face when incorporating these technologies?
  • How can these technologies impact classroom instruction?

  4. After this, each group will present their findings and proposed solutions. The teacher will instruct the students to concentrate on the following points during their presentations:

  • What other technological options could be utilized?
  • Why does your group believe the proposed option(s) are more impactful?
  • What additional advantages will the proposed option(s) offer to students and teachers?

  
  5. After each presentation, teacher will encourage a class discussion on the feasibility of these solutions and how they might be adapted to the context of the KOK project.

  6. The teacher will ask students to complete the attached worksheet, "Educational Technology."

  7. To bring the lesson to a class, have students reflect on the following questions during a class discussion or as a written refection:

  • Which piece of technology researched today are you most excited to use in your classroom?
  • How do you plan to incorporate technology in your classroom in the future?
  • How do you plan to help students overcome barriers with technology in your classroom?
  • How can educational technology help improve your instruction?
