Introduction to the Six Essential Elements of Geography:

In this first lesson of five in a unit on the Six Essential Elements of Geography students will be introduced to geographic concepts that are used to "make sense of the world" and will have a rudimentary understanding of the Six Essential Elements and their application at the end of the lesson. Students will begin to associate the Elements with real world examples. Students will engage in notetaking. These concepts cannot be mastered in a single lesson, so it is recommended that the Six Essential Elements of Geography be taught as a unit.

Mind Mapping Using the Six Essential Elements of Geography:

This lesson (part three of a five-part unit) will last approximately 90 minutes and can be used singly or as the third lesson of five in a unit on the Six Essential Elements of Geography. As a result of this lesson, students should be able to create a mind map from their notes and other subject matter materials to describe the six Essential Elements of Geography.

Six Essential Elements- National Geographic Photograph Activity:

This lesson is the fourth in a unit of five lessons on the Six Essential Elements of Geography. In this lesson students will apply recently acquired knowledge regarding the Six Essential Elements of Geography. They will utilize National Geographic magazines to find examples of the six Elements and write to explain how the photograph fits the element. First, they will do this activity in groups; groups will each be assigned one Element. Second students will individually find an example of all six Elements. At the end of the lesson, students will present their work to the class.

This lesson should last approximately 70 minutes and is the second lesson in a 5-part unit on the 6 Essential Elements of Geography. After this lesson students will be able to begin to apply their new knowledge.

This is lesson five of a five-part unit on the Six Essential Elements of Geography. Students will conduct a short research project and select textual evidence and images from their research as they apply the 6 Essential Elements to a city as a framework for understanding it and the people who live there. They will synthesize their research into a poster or PowerPoint and present their work to the class.
