Test Item Specifications
- Requires the student to select sentences or phrases from each text that show similarities or differences in how two texts treat a theme/topic.
- Requires the student to identify similarities and/or differences of how two or more texts treat a theme/topic.
- Requires the student to select the correct explanation of how two or more texts treat a theme/topic.
- Requires the student to select the correct explanation of how two or more texts treat a theme/topic and then to select sentences or phrases from each text that show similarities or differences.
- Requires the student to complete a table by comparing and contrasting how each text treats a similar theme or topic.
Items may ask the student to analyze similarities and/or differences in how texts approach similar themes or topics. Items may require the student to use key details to explain how texts are similar or different in their approach. Items should not simply ask the student to identify common themes or topics. Items should be developed with text sets from the same genre.
The items assessing this standard may be used with two or more grade-appropriate literary texts from the same genre. Texts may vary in complexity
The Enhanced Item Descriptions section on page 3 provides a list of Response Mechanisms that may be used to assess this standard (excluding the Editing Task Choice item type). The Sample Response Mechanisms may include, but are not limited to, the examples below.
