Items may ask the student to explain how visual or multimedia elements affect meaning, tone, or beauty of a text. Items should be developed to passages that make meaningful use of visual and multimedia elements. *There will be no audio administered on paper-based assessments.

The items assessing these standards may be used with two or more grade-appropriate literary texts and other media. Passages may consist of text or visuals. Texts may vary in complexity.
