General Notes
Major Concepts/Content:
The purpose of this course is to enable students whose heritage language is Haitian Creole to explore the Haitian Creole language and develop proficiency in the language by acquiring and reinforcing skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The course content will reflect the cultural values of the Haitian Creole-speaking world. The content includes, but is not limited to, the exploration of the following:
- basic principles of the Haitian Creole language;
- cultural concepts related to the Haitian Creole-speaking world;
- commonalities and differences in Haitian Creole-speaking countries and communities;
- work, education and leisure opportunities for bi-literate citizens.
This course shall integrate the Goal 3 Student Performance Standards of the Florida System of School Improvement and Accountability, as appropriate to the content and processes of the subject matter. It also reflects and includes appropriate Florida Standards benchmarks.
The standards and benchmarks listed for this course align with the expected levels of proficiency, rather than grade levels.

As well as any certification requirements listed on the course description, the following qualifications may also be acceptable for the course:
Any field when certification reflects a bachelor or higher degree with locally documented proficiency in Haitian Creole.
